A cold night camped at Rainbow Valley
The sun goes down on the dry valley floor The rocks glow in the changing light _and there are faces wherever you look Early morning ice at Rainbow Valley Singing honeyeater feeling the cold

To Uluru, Kata Tjuta and the Outback Way westwards

We've got our permit for the Tjukaruru Road We start seeing tracks _and before long the camels that made them

Lasseter's Cave and the Great Central Road beyond
We take the track to Lasseter's Cave _and read the sad story It's hard to imagine how lonely he must have felt A desert poplar by the Great Central Road
We stop at a tree marked by Len Beadell when he built the road _where there is now a replica of the plaque Casuarina forest nr Giles Creek Crossing

Giles Weather Station - the most remote in Australia
Early morning visit to Giles Weather Station _where they now house Len Beadell's Gunbarrel grader _and display the remains of Blue Streak
The little Museum houses interesting artefacts _including Len Beadell Cartoons We witness the release of the morning hydrogen balloon Blink and you've missed it The old radar tracker has been decorated

Gnamma holes and Len Beadell roads
Tjukurlapini Rockhole - our first encounter with gnamma holes _where permanent water is protected from large animals by Patjarr spiders Lichens reveal the regular presence of moisture Yarla Kutjarra Campsite, Outback Way Even the walls of the dunny are decorated
Rabbit droppings and tracks in the dunes A long lonely road _with a turn off to the historic Connie Sue Hwy Time for a refreshment stop

To Tjukayirla Roadhouse ...
